EnviroWatts give you the power to make a difference in your community by purchasing a portion of your energy needs from a renewable resource. Renewable energy sources include biomass, wind, water, and sunlight. These types of energy are important because in conjunction with fossil fuels, renewable energy can aid in meeting the increasing energy needs in Kentucky and around the world.

More specifically, at Shelby Energy we will provide you with power created through a technology that converts decaying garbage into electricity. In the past landfills released the gas into the atmosphere, wasting a valuable resource, that gas can be trapped and used to produce electricity. Although this new technology does present an increase in price to the consumer, the environmental benefits are well worth it. By investing in EnviroWatts you can help your environment by reducing landfill emissions into the atmosphere and preserving fossil fuels.

In order to make this cost efficient for our member, we are offering a limited supply of EnviroWatts to both residential and business members at an additional minimum cost of $2.75 per 100 kilowatt block. In addition, we are asking participants to agree to purchase that amount of EnviroWatts for a period of 12 months, which will be renewed automatically on a yearly basis, unless you notify the cooperative otherwise.
