NOTICE
Shelby Energy Cooperative, Inc., (“Shelby Energy”) intends to propose a general adjustment of its existing rates by filing an application with the Kentucky Public Service Commission (“KPSC”) on or after August 1, 2023 in Case No. 2023-00213. The application will request that the proposed rates become effective on or after September 1, 2023.
Shelby Energy intends to propose an adjustment only to certain rates. The present and proposed rates for each customer classification to which the proposed rates will apply are set forth below:

The rates contained in this notice are the rates proposed by Shelby Energy but the KPSC may order rates to be charged that differ from the proposed rates contained in this notice.

4. When was the last rate increase? Shelby Energy's last increase was 6 years ago in 2017.
5. Why is Shelby Energy requesting a rate increase?
- Increases in material cost, labor, interest, & general prices for all commodities during this highly inflationary period.
- Increases in cost for materials such as conduit, conductor, transformers, poles, and hardware have increased by approximately 50% since 2017.
- Labor costs have increased by 19% and its much more difficult to attract and retain the skilled work force we require.
- Increased interest rates.
6. What operating conditions have changed since the last increase?
- Reduced workforce by 1.9 full time equivalents.
- Upgraded technology platform to leverage our current employees so we can defer additional hires.
- Increased maintenance efforts such as right of way and pole inspection for better reliability.
- Outsourced low-level tasks for better utilization of crews at significant savings.
- Eliminated the credit card convenience fee to make online payments more cost effective and assist our pre-pay members.
